Prediction: Arsenal vs Chelsea

Best Odds: 5/4

Bookmaker:

In what is a real London derby on Sunday afternoon, Chelsea will make the trip to the Emirates when they face off against what could be a downbeat Arsenal side.

Arsenal

Starting with the hosts, enduring what was a hugely frustrating campaign last season, and failing to book any kind of European finish, The Gunners also endured a nightmare start last weekend. Making the trip to Premier League debutants Brentford, Mikel Arteta s side were hit with a deserved 2-0 defeat in West London, a result that has only seen the Spaniard come under more scrutiny. With many of the vocal fans around the Emirates far from convinced that Pep Guardiola s former right-hand man is the person to take them forward, The Reds also showed a host of issues during…

Man Utd matchwinner Fernandes: Criticism part of the job

Bruno Fernandes said Manchester United s players cannot afford to get annoyed by outside criticism, after he scored twice to fire the Red Devils to a much-needed win over Sheffield United.

Erik ten Hag s team were roundly criticised for their performance in Sunday s FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City, as they surrendered a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 before inching through in a penalty shoot-out.

They had also gone four Premier League games without a win (three draws, one defeat) prior to Wednesday s meeting with the rock-bottom Blades, with their hopes of Champions League football all-but over.

They twice trailed as Sheffield United threatened a huge upset, but Fernandes scored twice and supplied an assist as they fought back to claim a 4-2 win.

Kane to undergo ankle scan in injury scare for England at World Cup

England captain Harry Kane will go for a scan on his ankle ahead of the Three Lions next World Cup encounter against the United States.

Kane was brought down in a heavy challenge by Morteza Pouraliganji three minutes into the second half of England s 6-2 thrashing of Iran on Monday.

After some treatment, the striker picked himself up and continued until the 75th minute, when he was replaced by Newcastle forward Callum Wilson.

Kane was seen limping after the match with his right ankle strapped, though manager Gareth Southgate appeared unworried over the striker s fitness, saying he was replaced because the game was already won.

But the Tottenham star will now have his injury assessed, causing concern over the talisman s availability for England s second Gr…

Iran star Nekounam joins Esteghlal

Tehran giants Esteghlal have unveiled Iran international Javad Nekounam as the club s newest signing on a one-year deal.

The 31-year-old midfielder joins Esteghlal after six years with La Liga outfit Osasuna.

Osasuna were understood to be keen to offload Nekounam, who was their highest paid player, and according to Spanish reports he has left without any of his buyout clause of 2.5 million euros being paid.

The news is a major boost for Esteghlal, who finished the 2011/12 season in third place, having not won the Iranian title since 2009.

Esteghlal will be coached by Amir Ghalenoei this term and are also expected to unveil Farhad Majidi later in the week.

In other news, Osasuna s other Iranian Masoud Shojaei returned to playing action in mid-week…

Kompany wants City stay; Wenger optimistic Walcott will sign new deal

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany has revealed that he does not intend to leave the Etihad Stadium in favour of joining La Liga giants FC Barcelona or Real Madrid, .

The 26-year-old centre-back, who joined City from Hamburg on a four-year deal for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £6 million in August 2008, feels as if he would be overshadowed by the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo if he joined either of the Spanish giants.

It would take me time at another club to reach the level I have achieved with City. Even then there would be no guarantee I could do it, Kompany told The Sun.

Besides, I am convinced that I can win just as many honours with City as I could with Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Swansea City v Stoke City: Hughes eager to avenge May defeat

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes wants to rectify the regret of losing to Swansea City at the end of last season when the two sides meet at the Liberty Stadium on Monday.

A 2-0 win in May ultimately helped Garry Monk s side to finish eighth in the Premier League last term one place and two points above Stoke.

With just one point currently separating the two sides in the standings, Hughes is eager to avenge that defeat and secure their first back-to-back away wins in the top flight since December 2011.

We re encouraged by the last few performances and more importantly the results, and we re looking forward to the game on Monday, said Hughes.

They haven t won of late but they re an accomplished Premier League side on their day. Our games in Wales have been dif…

Otamendi hails City´s fighting spirit

Nicolas Otamendi felt Manchester City s scrappy 2-1 win over Norwich City was due reward for the Premier League leaders battling qualities.

Otamendi, who scored six times from centre-back for Valencia in La Liga last season, opened his City account by powering home Kevin De Bruyne s 67th-minute corner.

The hosts appeared to have thrown away victory at the Etihad Stadium when a dreadful error from goalkeeper Joe Hart presented Norwich striker Cameron Jerome with a tap-in seven minutes from time.

But Manuel Pellegrini s team finished strongly, winning penalties in the 89th minute and deep into stoppage time.

Yaya Toure decisively converted the first spot-kick, which saw Norwich captain Russell Martin sent off for blocking Raheem Sterling s goalbound shot wi…

Dortmund laugh off Reus to Arsenal reports

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has laughed off suggestions Marco Reus is set to leave for Arsenal at the end of the season.

Reports in Germany have suggested the Premier League outfit have lined up Reus as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez should the Chile international decide not to sign a contract renewal, with Arsenal said to be willing to pay up to €60 million for the Dortmund star.

Nevertheless, Zorc has made it clear there is no truth in the rumours, stressing the 27-year-old has never expressed a desire to leave.

I will not waste my time with half-baked rumours, he told Bild.

I do not know anything about it that Marco would like to leave us.

Reus joined Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012 and has …

Yaya Toure hopes for Manchester City comeback in title race

Yaya Toure has urged his Manchester City team-mates to draw inspiration from their title runs in 2012 and 2014 as he refuses to throw in the towel in the race for Premier League glory.

Pep Guardiola s men beat Bournemouth 2-0 on Monday to climb into second place in the table, but they still find themselves trailing leaders Chelsea by eight points.

City found themselves in a similar situation during their two most recent league-winning campaigns, though, and Toure hopes they can pull off another comeback on their way to a fifth title.

We are a little bit far away from Chelsea at the moment, and the way they are playing they will not let those points go, Toure told the club s official website.

But we have to look forward and also remember 2012 and 2014 wh…

Ozil starts for Arsenal against Wolves, captain Xhaka left out

Mesut Ozil will make his first Premier League start since September after being named in the Arsenal team to face Wolves on Saturday.

Ozil s only previous start in the league this season came away to Watford with the playmaker seemingly slipping out of favour under Unai Emery.

But the former Germany international has been recalled after playing a starring role in an extraordinary EFL Cup clash with Liverpool in midweek.

Captain Granit Xhaka is left out of the Arsenal squad for the second game in a row after Emery criticised his reaction while substituted to widespread jeers during last weekend s draw at home to Crystal Palace, though the midfielder this week apologised on social media and said he had received abuse following the incident.

Lucas Torreira i…
