data-mm-id=”_x5hiy5q9z”>It feels like it was only yesterday that the Los Angeles Clippers moved heaven and earth to acquire Paul George and paired him with Kawhi Leonard to create the most formidable superstar wing duo in the NBA. But in reality that was six years ago, and the Clippers have nothing to show for it all. Injuries have prevented both George and Leonard from making all but one healthy playoff run together; that came in the bubble and they blew a 3-1 lead to the Denver Nuggets in the second round. Otherwise it's been six seasons of wasted potential. Now it may all be coming to an end. Marc Stein reported on his Substack that the Clippers are gauging George's trade value and may actually trade him. This, from Marc Stein, is not a name I anticipated seeing in trade rumors: https://t.co/5UD14jTSIv pic.twitter.com/xWCr9dSeKC— Adam Aaronson (@SixersAdam) June 21, 2023Later in the article Stein cites the Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers as potential trade partners. From that it kind of sounds like Los Angeles is testing the waters to see if they couldn't jump into the top-four and grab one of the draft's elite prospects. If that is the case, and they don't find any interest, George will probably stay put. The team still owes its next three first-round picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder so there's no reason to rebuild yet. George could be a path to retooling, though. He got hurt before the playoffs again and it's probably safe to assume his availability is permanently in question going forward, but he also averaged 23 points per game with great shooting splits and defense and remains one of the game's elite two-way wings. Even if he is a superstar no more. Here are a few possible trade destinations for PG-13 if the Clippers decide to go down that path. Houston Rockets One of the two aforementioned teams that might be interested, the Rockets make a lot of sense for George through the lens that they want to be competitive next year. They were connected to James Harden for months and the noise coming out of Houston still indicates they're interested in bringing in veteran talent to raise the floor of the team. Even if their crop of rookies are still far, far away from even playoff contender status. There's also familiarity here after Houston traded Eric Gordon to Los Angeles at the trade deadline this past year. The Rockets also make sense for George because they have a ton of cap space right now and won't have to salary match his $45 million salary. If the No. 4 pick is involved then the Rockets would only have to give that up along with one or two of their lesser young players like Kevin Porter Jr. or JaeSean Tate. If the fourth pick is not involved then things get interesting. Would Houston give up on Jabari Smith Jr. or Jalen Green this early? Do the Clippers want Alpern Segun's delightful weirdness? Without the need to cobble together $45 million the possibilities are wide-ranging, but not many make sense for the Clippers if they still want to win. Portland Trail Blazers Of course the Blazers are included in this rumor mill. It feels like they've been after George for years, and in theory it makes perfect sense. The ideal running mate for Damian Lillard has always been a sharpshooting wing who can take on the difficult defensive assignments and run the offense when needed. As we endure another offseason of Lillard insisting he doesn't want to be traded, leading the Blazers to go after extremely unrealistic trade targets, it's only natural George is brought up. But unless Portland is willing to put the No. 3 pick on the table a deal feels unlikely. They can match George's contract with Anfernee Simons and Jusuf Nurkic but have declared Shaedon Sharpe untouchable and have no other attractive trade assets. It would be odd if the Clippers wanted to swap George for Simons, an electric scorer who doubles as a defensive turnstile, without any other assets. But on the other hand giving up the No. 3 pick along with Simons feels like an overpay for a 33-year-old oft-injured wing. Hard to see any middle ground there, but perhaps they could find it. Brooklyn Nets The Nets are another team locked into competitiveness in the near future by virtue of failed superstar trades and as such make for an intriguing partner. They've got a good bunch of middle-sized contracts that could be used to make the financials work, including a Cam Johnson sign-and-trade if necessary. While they don't have a high draft pick to offer they do have two right in the middle of the first round one after the other, which makes one expendable, and Los Angeles does not have a pick in this draft. George isn't a long-term answer in Brooklyn but as a running mate to Mikal Bridges for the time being he'd be perfect. Bridges is obviously off the table. He is the key to the Nets' hopes to not suck for the next few years. But Nic Claxton might be if George is the return. He's a borderline DPOY and All-Defense candidate who just turned 24 years-old. If he got thrown in, though, then the Nets would probably want Ivica Zubac to replace him. So the trade would look something like George and Zubac for Claxton, Ben Simmons, and Dorian Finney-Smith. Maybe with a draft pick thrown in there to convince LA to take Simmons' contract instead of a Johnson S&T. A pretty significant shake-up on both ends but one that could make everybody happy in the short-term.

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson believes Cristiano Ronaldo could play for the club again one day, as he praised the Portugese star s commitment during his six-year spell at Old Trafford.
He may come back, you never know, Ferguson told Britain s Press Association in Kuala Lumpur where the team are on a pre-season Asian tour.
Sometimes it happens that way. He loved United. If you look back at the six years he had with us, he never missed training.
Ronaldo became the world s most expensive player when he moved to Real Madrid on a six-year deal worth around 94 million euros (131 million dollars) and he made a low-key debut against Shamrock Rovers in Ireland on Monday.
Still just 24, Ferguson was quoted as saying Ronaldo s best was yet to come, descri…
Julian Brandt believes he can achieve something big with Borussia Dortmund after ignoring interest from elsewhere to sign a new three-year contract.
The Germany international has shone in his attacking midfield role for BVB this term, playing a huge role in a title challenge that could go to the wire.
Brandt, who turns 27 in May, signed his latest contract on Tuesday, quashing the prospect of him being able to leave on a free transfer at the end of next season.
Liverpool and Arsenal are among the teams who have been linked with Brandt in recent weeks, and that comes as little surprise considering his strong campaign.
Only three midfielders in the Bundesliga have created more chances this season that Brandt s 57, which puts him 30 ahead of his nearest midf…
Frank Lampard s agent insists there is no truth in reports the Chelsea midfielder is set to join Inter Milan after the Champions League final.
Reports in Italy claim Lampard, 29, is ready to quit Stamford Bridge rather than extend his contract, which expires in 2009.
Lampard, who is preparing to face Manchester United on Wednesday, has yet to agree a new deal with Chelsea. And Inter, who could be managed by former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho next season, are keen to sign the England star.
But agent Steve Kutner said: I don t know why Inter Milan would think this. Nobody has talked to me and I am good friends with the owner, Massimo Moratti.
I took Paul Ince there, I took Patrick Vieira there if there was something on, I am sure I would know.

Manchester United s French defender Mikael Silvestre has signed for Arsenal on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee, British media reported on Wednesday.
Silvestre had spent nine seasons under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford but his move south to North London means he joins up with manager Arsene Wenger whose defensive options will have increased with his signature.
The United contract of the 31-year-old, who missed a large part of last season with knee ligament damage, was set to expire next season. He had been linked with a move to Bordeaux and Manchester City during the summer but opted to move to the capital city instead.
Silvestre had fallen down the pecking order at United with Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand becoming Sir Alex Ferguson s first-choic…
Bundesliga giants Schalke have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Algerian midfielder Nabil Bentaleb, .
The talented footballer arrives to Veltins Arena on a season-long loan, while a €20 million option to buy could be automatically triggered at a later date.
Schalke were also looking at Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Benjamin Stambouli, but they ultimately opted for the Algeria international.
Nabil Bentaleb has shown a great deal of potential since coming through the youth ranks at Tottenham Hotspur, and he was even a first team regular during the 2014/2015 season.
However, a succession of injuries saw him make mere 5 Premier League outings last term, and despite signing a new deal in July 2015, his long-term future at the club is in …
Geoffrey Kondogbia s agent Jonathan Maarek has made it clear the Inter midfielder has not been in contact with Marseille over a potential transfer.
The 23-year-old has been struggling to secure regular first-team action at Inter, making just five appearances in all competitions this term, and has been linked with a move away from the Serie A giants.
Marseille are allegedly willing to offer the Frenchman a way out, but Kondogbia s representative has stressed a return to Ligue 1 is not the preferred option.
We would like to clarify that there has not been any contact with anyone from Marseille regarding their alleged interest to sign Geoffrey, Maarek told RMC.
Right now, Geoffrey is an Inter player and even if we were considering a departure, OM s projec…
Bayern Munich were not the biggest club in their own city, let alone the country, when Gerd Muller signed in 1964.
The Bavarians major trophy haul at that time consisted of a single league championship in 1932 and a maiden DFB-Pokal success 25 years later. Muller joined a second-tier side.
On Tuesday, two days after the club great s passing, Bayern celebrated his life in fitting fashion with a record-extending ninth DFL-Supercup triumph – a competition they have to win silverware simply to enter.
The Bundesliga dominance, cup after cup and six European crowns all that history can be traced back to Muller s decision to head for Bayern rather than rivals 1860 Munich.
He was there for the first four Bundesliga titles – the top scorer on each occasion –…
Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers insists they will not sell any of their star players unless the club decides they want them to leave.
With the Foxes second in the Premier League, in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup and with an FA Cup clash against Wigan Athletic to come on Saturday, 2019-20 is shaping up to be a strong season.
Leicester s form has seen some of their top players linked with moves elsewhere, with Manchester United said to be interested in James Maddison and Ben Chilwell a reported target for Chelsea and Manchester City.
Rodgers, though, is not prepared to entertain offers for any player he wants to keep at the King Power Stadium.
Nobody will leave here that we don t want to go, he told reporters on Friday. I think we ve had a couple of e…
World anti-doping chief John Fahey on Wednesday accused FIFA and UEFA of ignoring reality, after they rejected rules that ease out-of-competition drugs testing of individual footballers.
One of the key principles of efficient doping control is the surprise effect and the possibility to test an athlete without advance notice on a 365 day basis, the World Anti Doping Agency President said in a statement.
Alleging, as FIFA and UEFA do, that testing should only take place at training grounds and not during holiday periods, ignores the reality of doping in sport.
Experience has demonstrated that athletes who cheat seize every opportunity to do so and dope when they believe they won?t be tested, he added.
Since the beginning of January, the world anti-dopin…

An Ahly statement released in Cairo said Jose would be in charge of the Cairo Red Devils for the last time at the end of this month when the club play an African Confederation Cup match in Luanda.
