Higuain eventually joined Juventus in 2016, while Ronaldo arrived in 2018-19, prompting his ex-Madrid team-mate to move to Serie A rivals AC Milan on loan and then Chelsea last term.

Higuain and Ronaldo – who won the Scudetto in his first season – are now together again under Juventus head coach Maurizio Sarri, and the former Argentina international hailed the five-time Ballon d Or winner.

SPAL have sacked coach Leonardo Semplici following a miserable run of form.

The Serie A side are bottom of the table and have lost five of their last six league matches, a stretch that has left them seven points adrift of safety.

Semplici, who took over in 2014 and led SPAL from Serie C to promotion to Serie A in 2017, has paid the price for that run of form and is expected to be replaced by Luigi Di Biagio.

The club thanks Mr Semplici and his staff for the work done and results achieved over the years, SPAL, beaten 2-1 by Sassuolo on Sunday, said in a statement.

Drogba predicts major Manchester United success for ´crazy´ talent Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku is a crazy talent who can still get even better, according to former Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba.

Having failed to score in nine consecutive appearances, Lukaku netted twice in wins over Crystal Palace, Southampton and Paris Saint-Germain to re-establish his importance to Manchester United.

The Belgium international, who first moved to England with Chelsea in 2011, has been one of the United stars to benefit the most from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer s spell as caretaker manager and is expected to be involved in Saturday s FA Cup quarter-final at Wolves.

And Drogba thinks his former team-mate, who is still only 25, can develop even further in the coming years.

I am really happy for him because I remember the way he started with us. He was a kid…

Rakitic on Messi future: The first option should always be Barcelona

Ivan Rakitic insists Barcelona remain the best option for all players but admits he does not know whether Lionel Messi will leave the club.

Rakitic this week agreed a return to Sevilla from Barca for an initial fee of just €1.5million, signing a four-year deal with Julen Lopetegui s side.

His departure has been overshadowed by the news that Messi also wants to leave Camp Nou, having told the club as much last week.

His father and agent, Jorge Messi, was to meet with president Josep Maria Bartomeu on Wednesday to try to reach an agreement over an amicable exit.

Rakitic says it is down to each player to decide their future but suggested the six-time Ballon d Or winner could in fact be better suited by staying.
